Grounding Herbs: Your Earth Element Allies.
Sometimes life feels like it’s pulling you in a million directions at once. If you’re anything like me, at times, everything can feel bigger than you, faster than you, and more intense than usual. That’s exactly when grounding herbs become lifesavers. They’re not just plants, they’re allies of the Earth element, quietly rooting us back into our bodies, our breath, and the present moment.

When your mind is racing, your heart is swirling, and your energy feels scattered, grounding herbs help you come home to yourself. They literally pull energy down from the head and heart into the body, helping you feel stable, steady, and capable of handling whatever life is throwing at you.
For me, they’re like the earth beneath my feet when the world feels like it’s on fire. They don’t “fix” anything overnight, but they remind me that I have a body, a heart, and a rhythm I can trust. And sometimes I need that a lot! That’s the magic of the Earth element in plants: slow, heavy, nourishing, grounding.

I use these herbs all the time, they’re in my blends, my tinctures, my evening cups, and they help me feel like myself, even on the craziest days:
𝗥𝗼𝗼𝘁𝘀 & 𝗥𝗵𝗶𝘇𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀
Ashwagandha: My go-to when everything feels like too much. Steadies the mind, replenishes energy, and helps me sleep without dulling me.
Valerian: Deeply calming; I use it when my mental chatter is at 100 mph. I only need the smallest amount. 5 drops usually does the trick.
Elecampane: Feels like a rooted, old friend. Stabilising and quietly powerful.
Licorice Root: Sweet, harmonising, nourishing. Helps me feel supported, especially when I’m giving a lot out to the world.

Oatstraw: Comforting, replenishing, gentle but deeply restorative. My absolute favorite! Along with Nettle.
Nettle Leaf: Feels like holding yourself in minerals and strength.
Red Clover: Soft, nutritive, grounding over time.
𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘆 & 𝗔𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀
Tulsi / Holy Basil: Uplifting without scatter; balances and centres me.
Cinnamon: Warm, stabilising, like a hug for your insides. (Make sure your cinnamon is always Ceylon and not Cassia. Cassia cinnamon (often just called “cinnamon” in supermarkets) is the variety that’s high in coumarins, which in large or frequent amounts can be toxic to the liver or increase bleeding risk in susceptible people.
By contrast, Ceylon cinnamon (true cinnamon) has very low coumarin levels and is generally considered safe for regular consumption.)

There are so many ways to bring these allies in:
Decoctions: Slow-simmering roots and barks in water. Perfect for evenings when I need to drop out of my head and back into my body.
Tinctures: A few drops daily keeps me steady, even on high intensity days.
Teas: Oatstraw, nettle, red clover—easy, gentle, grounding.

Grounding herbs are like walking barefoot on the earth energetically. Even if your life is 1000 mph, they remind you that you have roots. I drink my grounding teas while sitting quietly, take a tincture before bed, and it’s like hitting a reset button, calming the chaos, nourishing the nervous system, and connecting me to my own steady centre.
For anyone feeling pulled, scattered, or just too much, these allies of the Earth element are a gentle, powerful reminder: you belong in your body. You are anchored. And yes, you can handle the intensity, of any kind of day.

Grounding herbs are safe for most people, but if you’re pregnant, nursing, on medication, or managing chronic conditions, check in with a practitioner. They’re allies, but your individual needs are unique. So, I always recommend you have a quick look on my website where every plant has a list of what are called contraindications. Contraindications are all the reasons why you might want to be careful with a plant. For example, managing certain health conditions, or specific drug interactions.
And P.S. don't forget to get outside and put your toes in the dirt 🩷🌸🩷
