Traditionally used to support healthy inflammatory balance, liver and gallbladder function, joint mobility, and digestive wellbeing. This warming golden tonic combines Turmeric Root, Ginger, and Ceylon Cinnamon with a phospholipid activation sachet to maximise the absorption of turmeric's beneficial curcuminoids while supporting the body's natural detoxification and restorative processes.
Overview
Golden Milk has been treasured in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries as a restorative tonic that nourishes the body while calming inflammation, supporting digestion, and encouraging resilience. This blend combines organic Turmeric, Ginger, and Ceylon Cinnamon in a traditional decoction formula, paired with a separate phospholipid activation sachet designed to enhance the absorption of turmeric's active compounds.
Curcumin, the principal constituent of turmeric, is naturally difficult for the body to absorb. It dissolves poorly in water, passes rapidly through the digestive tract, and is quickly metabolised by the liver. The included phospholipid sachet provides natural phosphatidylcholine from sunflower lecithin, allowing curcuminoids to form lipid complexes that are more readily incorporated into intestinal cell membranes and transported throughout the body. Combined with the warming circulatory actions of Ginger and Ceylon Cinnamon, this creates a formula that supports both traditional herbal wisdom and modern understanding of botanical bioavailability.
Medicinal Properties (as described in herbal literature)
- Anti-inflammatory - traditionally used to support healthy inflammatory balance throughout the body
- Digestive tonic - traditionally used to stimulate healthy digestion and assimilation
- Carminative - traditionally used to relieve bloating, wind, and digestive discomfort
- Cholagogue - traditionally used to support healthy bile production and fat digestion
- Hepatic - traditionally used to support healthy liver function
- Hepatoprotective - traditionally used to protect the liver from a wide range of environmental toxins
- Anti-fibrotic - research shows curcumin may stop fibrosis in the liver
- Antioxidant - traditionally used to protect tissues from oxidative stress
- Circulatory stimulant - traditionally used to encourage healthy blood flow and warmth
- Joint tonic - traditionally used to support comfortable movement and mobility
Curcumin has inherently poor oral bioavailability due to low water solubility, limited intestinal absorption, rapid metabolism, and rapid elimination.
Phosphatidylcholine forms lipid complexes with curcuminoids that can improve their solubility and intestinal absorption. This principle is supported by clinical research demonstrating substantially higher bioavailability compared with standard curcumin preparations.
The inclusion of healthy dietary fats alongside turmeric further enhances curcumin absorption, making the phospholipid activation sachet an important part of the formulation.
Directions: Add 1 Tbsp of the herbs to 1 cup of full fat milk (if you use plant milk you must add 1 Tbsp of healthy fat: either coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, ghee etc ). Add 1½ tsps of the phospholipid activation sachet. Bring the mixture to a very gentle simmer with the lid on the pot. Do not boil! Simmer for 20 minutes. Strain and add 1 pinch of freshly ground fine black pepper. Add sweetener if you so desire.
Contraindications
- Use caution if taking anticoagulant or antiplatelet medications, as turmeric and ginger may influence blood clotting.
- Use cautiously with gallstones or bile duct obstruction due to turmeric's traditional cholagogue activity.
- Consult a practitioner if pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medications, or managing a medical condition.
